It Heard this news from an SMS that A.R.Rahman is going to score the background music for 2012 olympics in LONDON.It was no surprise to me, Rahman deserves that. The Mozart of Madras became Mozart of India...and now he is going to become the Mozart of World Music.Music for UN ,Pray for me Brother made him to be the star of the world music,He would have been very rich like pop singers if he would have been given rights for the film music,In India we dont have that practice,All rights are reserved with the producers. The forthcoming 2009 is going to be a big treat for Rahmanists with Yuvvaraaj( from the team of TAAL) and Marmayogi. The latest Buzz is the new combination of ARR+Gautam menon for Chennaiyil oru Mazhaikaalam,Lets see how that combination works....Some critics feel that Harris is better than Rahman..But Harris does his best only with Jeeva and Gautam.

Guardiola: Thanks for the title Madrid

Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has congratulated rivals Real Madrid for having an excellent season and for pushing them all the way.
He believes that his team would not have gotten the record-breaking 99 points and lost only a single game if not for Real Madrid's chase in the title race which went all the way to the last day of the season.
"Without a Madrid so good we would not have gotten 99 points and without a strong Barca, Real Madrid would not have had so many points. They have plenty of money and are able to make great squads but will again be our biggest rivals next year," he said in an interview with AS.
He said: "I congratulate the coach and players of Real Madrid, because they have dignified the profession and the league. And again, I congratulate them, but only them, the coach and the players, only them," he stated.
"These players are an empire, they are unique. They make hard things easy. Getting 99 points and losing only one game is incredible. All thanks to the players. They are incredible,"
Guardiola concluded by thanking the fans for their support and reiterated that Lionel Messi is undoubtedly the best player on the planet.
After leading England to their maiden ICC tournament title by winning the World Twenty20 here, captain Paul Collingwood said Sunday's triumph as important as Ashes victory
"We've got some good players in the side, and with the work ethic we've had this year I think we're starting to see the results on the pitch. We're getting there, and we have today," he said after England crushed Australia by seven wickets in the grand finale at Kensington Oval here.

Collingwood, who was a member of the 2005 Ashes-winning squad, said his side thought they had a chance to lift the trophy after they reduced Australia to eight for three in the third over after he inserted Michael Clarke's men.

"When you want to be the best you've got to beat the best. When we got them three wickets down early doors, we gave ourselves a great opportunity. We want to kick on from this.

This is the first trophy we've ever won, we're going to enjoy it, we are going to savour it,

MANCHESTER, England(AP) England striker Wayne Rooney aggravated a groin injury while playing for Manchester United on Sunday, a month before the World Cup begins.

The 24-year-old Rooney limped off in the 77th minute of United's season-ending 4-0 victory over Stoke.

''I don't think it is serious - he should be OK for England,'' United manager Alex Ferguson said.

Hampered by groin and ankle problems for more than a month, Rooney had initially been ruled out of the final two matches of the club season but returned for United's failed bid to win a fourth straight Premier League title.

Rooney, who scored 34 goals for United this season, rejoined his teammates on the pitch after the match for an end-of-season lap of Old Trafford.

Rooney is certain to be in the provisional 30-man World Cup squad announced Tuesday by coach Fabio Capello. But it is unclear whether he will play in England's friendlies against Mexico on May 24 and Japan on May 30 before the final squad of 23 is announced on June 1.

The team's first match of the tournament in South Africa is against United States on June 12 in Rustenburg.

England captain Rio Ferdinand completed a full match against Stoke in a season blighted by a chronic back problem.

Gary Neville also played 90 minutes. Ferguson recently suggested the 35-year-old right back could return to the England squad. Neville's last international appearance came in February 2007.

United midfielder Owen Hargreaves wants to go to South Africa. But despite making his first appearance in 19 months last weekend - in which he didn't touch the ball - England's key player from the 2006 World Cup didn't play Sunday.

SEOUL, South Korea(AP) North Korea's national soccer players received a festive send-off as they head abroad to train for their first World Cup in 44 years.

Broadcaster APTN in Pyongyang reported Saturday that residents waved North Korean flags outside the airport as the players arrived. Footage showed women waving flowers as the team boarded the plane.

Coach Kim Jong Hun is promising ``a great success.'' He declined to say whether the team would be heading to Zimbabwe.

The team had been planning to train in Zimbabwe but activists there have vowed to protest the North Korean visit. Many are still angry that North Korean troops trained the Zimbabwean soldiers accused of killing tens of thousands to quell an uprising in the 1980s.

CAPE TOWN, South Africa(AP) The World Cup trophy went on display in Cape Town on Friday ahead of its countrywide tour of South Africa.

The solid-gold trophy was unveiled in the Khayelitsha township following an unexpected visit a day earlier to Johannesburg and South Africa's former president Nelson Mandela.

Football's biggest prize made a 130,000-kilometer (80,000-mile) journey across the world, where it visited 86 nations, before arriving in the 2010 host country earlier this week.

``When you come to the arrival of the trophy and the teams then you know that the game is on,'' local organizing committee chief executive Danny Jordaan said in Khayelitsha.

The World Cup will visit 38 towns and cities in South Africa ahead of the tournament's June 11 kickoff.

Trophy tour organizers said the cup would travel between venues in a special helicopter.

TOKYO(AP) Japan coach Takeshi Okada announced a 23-member World Cup squad on Monday, naming four Europe-based players he hopes will give his team some extra attacking strength.

Keisuke Honda of CSKA Moscow, Makoto Hasebe, who plays for Germany's VfL Wolfsburg, Daisuke Matsui of French side Grenoble and Takayuki Morimoto of Italian club Catania were called up along with former Glasgow Celtic and Espanyol midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura, who now plays for the J-League's Yokohama F Marinos.

Japan, which reached the second round when it co-hosted the 2002 edition with South Korea but has never won a World Cup match on foreign soil, will be making its fourth straight appearance in football's quadrennial showpiece.

``This is a team that will never give up, is very fast and will be at a high level of fitness,'' Okada told a news conference.

Japan, drawn with the Netherlands, Denmark and Cameroon in Group E, has had trouble scoring goals in recent matches but Okada is hoping the presence of players such as Honda and Morimoto will solve that problem in South Africa.
Squad:

Goalkeepers: Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi (Jubilo Iwata), Seigo Narazaki (Nagoya Grampus), Eiji Kawashima (Kawasaki Frontale).

Defenders: Marcus Tulio Tanaka (Nagoya Grampus), Yuichi Komano (Jubilo Iwata), Daiki Iwamasa (Kashima Antlers), Yasuyuki Konno (FC Tokyo), Yuto Nagatomo (FC Tokyo), Atsuto Uchida (Kashima Antlers).

Kansas City Wizards forward Sunil Chhetri could have a dream day as Manchester United will take on the Kansas City Wizards in their pre-season preparations.

It will be a sight to watch as Sunil Chhetri takes on Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. Early this week Manchester United announced their pre-season plans. The Red Devils will tour United States and Canada for their pre-season preparations. As part of that programme Sir Alex’s men are scheduled to play Kansas City Wizards on 25th July at the inauguration of their New Arrowhead Stadium. If things go to plan, Wizards newly arrived Indian striker may well take part in the game against United.

Speaking to the Wizards’ official website, President and CEO of OnGoal venture, Robb Heineman said, “This will be one of the biggest sporting events the Midwest has ever seen, and it's a great opportunity for Kansas City to show that we deserve to be one of the host cities for the World Cup.”

“When OnGoal purchased the Wizards we anticipated bringing high-profile teams like Manchester United to Kansas City, and with our new stadium opening in 2011, our fans can expect more games of this caliber in the future. We are incredibly excited to be able to partner with the Hunt family to bring this massive event to our city.”
Speaking on the forthcoming trip, Sir Alex Ferguson said, “It’s great to be going back to North America,” “I enjoyed the last two tours there in 2003 and 2004 immensely. The quality of the facilities is outstanding and there is real enthusiasm in the crowds. It’s especially pleasing to be going in a World Cup year, when interest in football will be at its height.”

The Wizards will be the third opponents for the Old Trafford club as the start their 2010 on July 16 against Glasgow Celtic in Toronto. All Indians and Manchester United fans will mark July 25th as a red-letter day.

LENA HORNE DIES

The term "class act" might not have been coined specifically for Lena Horne, who died Sunday night at age 92 in New York City. But it has suited few public figures as well.
Over a life that spanned nine decades and a career that lasted nearly as long, the singer, actress and civil rights champion remained a paragon of elegance and dignity, whether dazzling movie fans, wowing live audiences or campaigning for racial equality.

"She is a lady," Leslie Uggams, one of many female African-American performers inspired and empowered by Horne's example, said in 2007. Before Horne, Uggams noted, "Black women were only allowed to play maids in the movies, and all of a sudden, the black community had this goddess."

Horne died at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, hospital spokeswoman Gloria Chin told the Associated Press.

Horne's impact as a personality and activist took root long before her film career took flight. The great-granddaughter of a freed slave, she had relatives active in organizations such as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Urban League.

After breaking into show business in the early 1930s as a teenage dancer at Harlem's legendary Cotton Club and appearing on Broadway, Horne sang and toured with bands of the era, experiencing firsthand the discrimination that confronted black entertainers on the road.

By the time she arrived in Hollywood in the early '40s and became the first black actress to secure a long-term contract with MGM, Horne was determined not to play roles that accommodated racial stereotypes. She appeared in screen musicals such as Cabin In the Sky and Stormy Weather; in the latter, she teamed with Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, Cab Calloway and Fats Waller, and sang the Harold Arlen-composed title number, which would become her signature tune.

Horne performed for U.S. troops during World War II and supported Japanese Americans persecuted after the war.

In the '50s, she was among numerous artists blacklisted for alleged ties to Communist groups but was cleared in time to nurture a successful recording career and return to Broadway, in the Arlen/E.Y. Harburg musical Jamaica, later in the decade.

Horne's dedication to combating the injustices faced by African Americans never waned. Horne took part in the historic March on Washington in 1963, appeared at rallies and served with the National Council of Negro Women and on behalf of the NAACP.

In 1981, Horne once again graced the Broadway stage in Lena Horne: The Lady And Her Music. The one-woman show was a sensation, drawing avid crowds and rave reviews and earning Horne a special Tony Award in 1982.

Horne continued to perform live and record into the late '90s, winning a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album in 1995. In 2006, her record company, the jazz label Blue Note, released a collection of rare and previously unavailable tracks.
